On Saturday, fifteen Civil Air Patrol officers took to the skies over hill country for a chance to win the first annual Texas Wing Flight Competition. The three person aircrew from Texas Group 5 (San Antonio region), who held home field advantage, ended up with the trophy after a rigorous day of flying, inspections and tests.

Five Civil Air Patrol aircrew teams, made up of three members each, will descend upon San Marcos Regional Airport later this month. The teams will be participating in the first annual Texas Wing Flight Competition, the winners taking home bragging rights and the inaugural trophy.

Tuesday evening brought a change of command ceremony to the San Marcos squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. Texas Wing Group V Commander Lt. Col. Ed Garland presided over the ceremonial event, passing the squadron guidon from outgoing commander Capt. Robert Klett to newly minted commander Maj. Matthew Congrove.

Numerous cadets from the David Lee "Tex" Hill Composite Squadron received awards this week during an annual holiday party and family event. The awards, recognizing outstanding service by cadets, also included commendations from outside organizations such as the VFW, Air Force Association and Air Force Sergeants Association.

This weekend two-dozen members of the David Lee "Tex" Hill Composite Squadron of San Marcos, Texas made the short trip south to visit Lackland Air Force Base's Kelly Field Annex in San Antonio. The day was spent touring the 68th Airlift Squadron of the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 433rd Airlift Wing, including the opportunity to step inside a C-5A Galaxy transport aircraft, one of the largest planes in the world.

Twenty-eight Civil Air Patrol members and family joined over 1,000 attendees at the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing's Veteran's Day dinner dance. The event, held annually, is an authentic World War II USO experience and includes a catered meal, a dance contest, a silent auction, and the swinging tunes of the Sentimental Journey Orchestra.

Four members of the David Lee "Tex" Hill Composite Squadron attended the Texas Wing Cadet Training and Education Program (CTEP) in Nacogdoches, Texas last weekend. The three-day event, which includes four schools aimed at cadets in various stages of the Cadet Program, ran alongside a Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC) school for senior members.

Nearly 100 students of KIPP San Antonio, a college-preparatory public school for underserved communities, participated in an aviation-themed field trip to San Antonio International Airport. The David Lee "Tex" Hill Composite Squadron provided a booth set up with flight simulators to give the 6th graders an opportunity to try their hand at flying.
