Civil Air Patrol Cadet Membership

The Cadet Program

The cadet program is not a military training program -- the Civil Air Patrol does not teach our youth to be soldiers. Neither is it a Boy/Girl Scout troop wearing United States Air Force (USAF) uniforms. The cadet program is designed to foster self-sufficiency, pride of country, and the value of community service. The cadet program helps young members develop leadership qualities that might otherwise lay dormant and never be tapped. The cadet program rewards personal effort and merit, and recognizes each member's potential for success. The cadet program not only helps foaster and build a more well rounded young person, but many take these skills well into their adult lives.

Mission of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program

The Cadet Program provides the youth of our nation a quality program that enhances their leadership skills through an interest in aviation, and simultaneously provides services to the United States Air Force and the local community.

  1. The Cadet Program lets every cadet:

    1. Participate in a variety of special activities and programs

    2. Develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for understanding aerospace principles and the total impact of aerospace on society

    3. Develop self-discipline, teamwork, and confidence through the study and practice of leadership in an Air Force-style environment

    4. Develop a personal ethical foundation and an understanding of the moral issues of our time through discussion and debate

    5. Become physically fit and develop a life-long habit of regular exercise.

  2. Through study and performance, cadets work through a series of achievements. As cadets progress, they advance in grade; may earn ribbons, certificates, and awards; become eligible for nationally-sponsored special activities; and compete for valuable academic and flight scholarships.
