What is it?
Being a Civil Air
Patrol (CAP) Senior Member is, for many, one of the
most enriching parts of life outside of worship and
family. CAP will introduce you to new endeavors, and
foster your making new acquaintances (and some of
them will become life-long friends). Unlike most
organizations, CAP is among the few that have a
life-saving mission. Fulfilling that mission
provides CAP members with a deep sense of
satisfaction and accomplishment.
As a CAP Senior
Member you will be joining a highly motivated,
all-volunteer team. Other Senior Members of your
unit are civic-minded, like yourself, and
professionalism, dedication and patriotism are
characteristics they share with you as well. Many
CAP Senior Members have told us, when asked why they
joined, "I wanted to give something back to my
country. . . ."
Ours is a composite
squadron, which means that we support the Emergency
Services mission of CAP with an integrated team of
adults (Senior Members) and teens (Cadets). The
Senior Members support the Cadet Program mission of
the Civil Air Patrol with a seniors/cadet squadron,
which is dedicated to helping young people learn
about leadership, aerospace, responsibility, duty,
and honor.
There are no
physical fitness requirements (or tests) for
becoming and remaining a CAP Senior Member. Also,
there are no educational requirements to join.
Depending on your qualifications, you will be
appointed to a rank appropriate to your experience
and value to the Civil Air Patrol. Prior service
military individuals usually start out at a higher
grade, provided they have been honorably discharged.
Although CAP is the
Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, all our
members are civilians. You must follow the US Air
Force grooming standard if you want to wear the Air
Force uniform (with distinctive CAP insignia), but
there is no grooming standard requirement for
wearing an authorized CAP corporate (non-military)
uniform.
All Senior Members in
the Tex Hill Composite Squadron wear uniforms. There are
two reasons why Senior Members voted for this.
-
We are the largest
squadron in Texas, with over 40 Senior Members
and 90 Cadets (who look up to Senior Members).
What we do, and how we behave does matter!
-
Our primary pilot focus is supporting Federal,
State, and US Air Force non-combat, non-law
enforcement missions.
-
Our primary
non-pilot focus is on Emergency Services. In
that role, we are often working with other
agencies. All other agencies involved in
Emergency Services and Disaster Relief wear some
type of uniform. Wearing a uniform gives all Tex
Hill Composite Squadron members an air of
professionalism.
